Cook & Chat

cook&chatwithshelby_stacked

Cook & Chats are monthly virtual gatherings via Zoom hosted by Shelby Kinnaird We cook, we talk, and we always learn something new. Shelby lives with Type 2 diabetes, so the recipes are diabetic-friendly, but Cook & Chat is not exclusively for people who live with diabetes. Anyone who appreciates tasty, healthy food will enjoy the dishes we make.

How it Works

REGISTER
The first step is to register. Once you’ve registered, you’ll get the recipes we’ll be cooking together along with a list of equipment you’ll need and a few prep tasks to do ahead of time.

GET READY
Next, you’ll make sure you have the ingredients and equipment plus do any necessary prep tasks. For example, you might be asked to chop an onion or preheat your oven ahead of time.

ATTEND
Finally, you’ll log into Zoom, cook a few (easy) tasty dishes, and make some new friends. I guarantee you’ll have fun and learn something! We try to finish in about an hour.

We'd love for you to attend our next Cook & Chat!

FAQ

Is Cook & Chat free?
 Expand

Technically, yes. There is no charge to attend a virtual (Zoom-based) Cook & Chat, but donations via PayPal are always appreciated 🙂 Pay what you can.

Do I have to be an experienced cook?
 Expand

No! The recipes are simple enough for people just learning to cook, but interesting enough for folks who know their way around a kitchen. The idea is to try new things with the support of other people and to gain confidence in your ability to prepare tasty, healthy meals.

Do I need any special equipment? Expand

Well, you do need an oven and a stovetop! While things like a blender, food processor, or meat thermometer might be handy for some recipes, they are not required. If you have a sharp knife, cutting board, bowls, spoons, measuring cups and spoons, baking dishes and pans, a skillet, and saucepans, you should be fine.

Do I have to cook or can I just chat? Expand

You do not have to cook, but we'd love it if you did! Some people like to attend once or twice before they cook with us. Others prefer to make the recipes at a later time because of time zone differences. Feel free to join even if you aren’t planning to cook.

When are Cook & Chats held? How long do they last? Expand

We offer Cook & Chats about once a month, usually on the second Wednesday, at 5 pm ET / 4 pm CT / 3 pm MT / 2 pm PT. If we invite a guest host who is only available on other days, we adjust. We try to get everything done in an hour.

Are Cook & Chats only for people with diabetes? Expand

While Shelby does lives with Type 2 diabetes and watches the amount of carbs she eats, the Cook & Chats are for anyone who wants to eat healthy food that tastes great. We've welcomed people who live with diabetes, people who cook for people who live with diabetes, people who just love to cook, people who want to learn how to cook, and people who are trying to lose weight or maintain a weight loss. Anyone who has a good attitude and sense of adventure is welcome!

How do I get the recipes? Expand

Once you register for a specific Cook & Chat, you'll receive the complete recipes, a list of equipment you'll need, and a few prep tasks to do ahead of time.

Can I keep in touch after the Cook & Chat is over? Expand

Of course! After you attend a Cook & Chat, you will be invited to join our private Facebook group. The group is a place to ask questions and share recipes, tips, and products we love.

Do you have any plans to offer in-person Cook & Chats? Expand

I'm so glad you asked! Yes, that's the dream. Eventually, we want to offer half-day in-person Cook & Chats and multi-day cooking excursions to fun foodie destinations. One day.

Can I schedule a private Cook & Chat with my family and friends?
 Expand

Absolutely (although it won't be free). Contact Shelby for details.
